Cashback mean giving money back. Cashback  where customers can earn cash back on online purchases that they make. Discount is a rebate offered upfront. A discount of 15% on Rs. 100 product means that you pay Rs. 85. Cash back means you have to pay the full  amount but the discount is credited back in to your account. In the above case, you will pay Rs. 100 but Rs. 15 will be credited back to your account, usually In a few days.

Discount is used when the retailer is offering the deal himself while cash back is generally used when a third party is involved. For example, SBI Bank may offer 5% cash back on purchase from shopping site. You pay the full amount at shopping site and the discount is refunded in cash back by SBI. Makes the transaction much more easier.
